TLJ spoilers from what I feel are accurate sources - Details from the trailer.SPECULATION self.starwarsspeculation

submitted 8 hours ago by dontcallitaleak

I previously posted a thread on this sub detailing what I now feel is credible leaked information on The Last Jedi. You can find that thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/starwarsspeculation/comments/72upfz/ive_heard_a_fairly_detailed_description_of_tlj/

As stated in the thread, I wanted to wait for the trailer to see if anything would prove or disprove this information. As of the trailer's release, I'm now confident this info is, in fact, legitimate.

About my sources: I'm going to be as intentionally vague as I need to to obfuscate any attempt to discern who they are. I'm happy to detail more, privately, to moderators if asked, but for now suffice it so say this: I have two sources who, through their jobs, have come into contact with what they believe is content from a mostly-complete cut of TLJ. They don't have everything, and much of what they are relaying to me is through their own lens of Star Wars fandom. Case in point, they mentioned to me that Luke's academy was on Devaron. When pressed, it became obvious that this was speculation on their part and not confirmed in the movie. So if this information seems detailed in some areas and sparse in others, and if it seems like someone's interpretation of what they've seen, then that's very likely true. That's just how this goes.

So, all that said, after the trailer I asked them about the scenes shown in it and to see what they can elaborate on. Here's what I got:

   The opening dialogue "When I found you, I saw raw untamed power, and beyond that..." and "something truly special" are two different lines. People have speculated that this is being spoken to Rey (I thought so to), but my sources say that this is spoken to Kylo. The full line is something akin to "When I found, I saw raw untamed power, and beyond that, weakness." Snoke is chastising Kylo for not killing Leia when he had the chance".

   As mentioned in my last thread, Luke refuses to train Rey for fear of doing more harm to the galaxy than what, in his mind, has already been done. The first Jedi basically saw that light breeds dark, and vice versa, and allowed the dark side to grow in power so that the light would in turn. The shot of Rey approaching the books is basically when Luke says "You want me to show what the jedi were about? Let me show you what the jedi were really about."

   While my sources knew that Kylo had an opportunity to kill Leia early on - and didn't take it - the scenes in the trailer of Kylo flying his TIE in the opening space battle surprised them, as it's something they hadn't seen. Putting together what they have seen, they think it's obvious that Kylo has the opportunity to kill Leia and doesn't, starting the rift between Kylo and Snoke that busts wide open later on.

   The shot of Luke's hand shooting out of burning rubble isn't a shot they were familiar with. The shot of Luke kneeling by R2 was. The Luke + R2 shot is from one of Kylo's visions.

   "Let the past die" no idea where this dialogue occurs. Possible it's not in the film.

   The falcon flying through the caves on Crait is being piloted by Chewbacca. The shot with Chewie in the co-pilot seat with the Porg? From when they leave Ach-To. Rey is piloting at that point.

   "This is not going to go the way you think" - This happens right after Rey fights off the sea monster, with Luke very intentionally not using the force or his saber to fight back. Rey gets pissed and basically shoves him down with the force, yells at him and calls him a coward, says he could save the galaxy if he could, could've saved Han. Luke gets pissed right back, tells her she has no idea what she's doing and is going to bring far more pain to the galaxy if she persists.

   Snoke: "Fulfill your destiny" - as mentioned in my last thread, Rey is captured early on and wakes up in what she thinks is a hut, being tended by Snoke. Snoke assumes a humble, kindly personality and talks with her. When he starts nudging her to act with the 'fulfill your destiny' stuff is when she starts to get suspicious. (A not on this scene - one of the sources I'm talking to says that this 'hut' is all in Rey's mind, that it's basically a force illusion projected by Snoke and she's in his throne room in reality. Other person says he hasn't seen anything about that.)

   Snoke using the force on Rey happens toward the beginning of Act III. This sounds less like torture and more like him proving that he's so much stronger than her.

   I wish I had more on Finn v Phasma, but I don't. Looks awesome though.

   Rey: "I need someone to show me my place in all this". This is at the beginning of the movie, she's talking to Luke trying to get him to train her.

   Kylo's outstretched hand: No idea. Sorry.

Not a whole lot new here, but some bits I thought would be found interesting.
@ISeeAnIsland

I can make this work in my understanding of the trailer. Really, I can. I'm going to have to re-read multiple times (because that's how I roll), but on a surface read, I can see where it would/could work.

@snufkin wrote:@ISeeanIsland you guys are going to hate me for suggestioning this, but based on the crack spoilers, what if the big moment when Kylo saves somebody is Finn by killing Phasma? And that’s when Snoke absconds with Rey as the cliffhanger? Even as an OT fan who loves Han, patricide has never bothered me versus how he beats up and maims Finn for having the balls to do what he’s too much of a coward to do, for standing up to the FO and coming to Rey’s defense. Ben Solo has to make some pretty big amends to Finn for his behavior first and foremost for me to buy a meaningful redemption arc. And he’ll have to do it if he actually cares about Rey because Finn is her best friend and closest she has to family. So if he’s anywhere near the fight with Phasma and Finn’s in danger of getting killed by her, Kylo best help out. But if they pull anything close to mirroring a plot point, Snoke snagging Rey forces the two of them to work together. Of course if the rumor about Finn cutting of Phasma’s arm is true, that gets a little too into Monty Python & the Holy Grail if she’s got one arm and still fighting.

As for how Snoke could lure her away, maybe it’s I’ll let him go if you come with me. And she knows that unlike her, he has somebody who’s been wanting for a reunion. This is just late night conjecture, but there has to be a way to show how Kylo is going to overcome being an a**hole to Finn in a way that’s meaningful.
@snufkin

I agree. I've heard more than once that Kylo kills Phasma, and this exactly my thought - he kills Phasma to protect Finn, and that goes a very long way to making their relationship not quite so toxic. I'm not saying they will be friends, just "not enemies."
@PalmettoBlue

I've heard two unconfirmed spoilers that could cause Finn and Kylo to reconcile despite everything Kylo has done to Finn-- the "Kylo kills Phasma" rumor, which I thought would only work if he does it to save Finn's life because narratively that should be Finn's fight, and the crashing Star Destroyer rumor, in which Kylo could potentially save everyone on board including Finn.  But I do think that either way, the story calls for an opportunity for Kylo to specifically redeem himself to Finn-- in fact, I think it would be more powerful in some ways than saving Rey (cute girl he probably has a crush on) or Leia (his own mother.). Finn isn't someone special to him like Rey or Leia, and Finn is someone he hurt badly.

@PalmettoBlue

Saving Finn would be probably even more powerful. He has nothing to gain from him, not his crush or mother. At best Finn might not hate him but still doing it could send a good message. But then antis would tell us how Kylo is robbing Finn of his revenge.

EDIT: But then we have more evidence for Kylo to help Rey or Leia than Finn. That might be too much if he starts saving all of them, message would get lost and not that impactful to the audience.

This was the guy who in the original leak said that Rey and Kylo weren't related and had a "sibling rivalry"-style relationship. Yeah, right. And he's also very adamant about Kylo and Rey not sharing any scenes on the island (sure, Jan). But I still wanted to share anyway because that's how I roll.

@PalmettoBlue - I foresee the two of them in the future as awkward brothers-in-law at family holiday dinners. And you know both Finn and Poe will tell him that if he'd better not ever upset Rey or break her heart because he'll have to answer to them for it.

Have any of the leaks known about #RAWPOWAH?

Unless I'm forgetting someone, the only leakers who have even hinted at it (and I don't think they necessarily knew the specifics) were MSW ("Luke tells Rey about her place in the Force and then doesn't want to train her) and Bothan-Spy (hut explosion).

Only MSW and BothanSpy (who drew a wrong conclusion that it was Luke who blew up the hut but the gist is correct - someone used the Force to blow it up). MSW actually said that Luke was afraid of Rey and they maintained a speculation since the teaser that rey and Kylo will be new Force Users, first of their kind, neither Jedi nor Sith.

@vaderito

I find the possibility of Rey blowing up the hut intriguing.

That would mean that (assuming that Bothan-Spy was correct about the rest of the scene), we're looking at a situation where Rey and Kylo are having a conversation that Luke doesn't like, Luke "tries to stop them", and then Rey blows up the hut.

If it's framed that way, it seems like she could have been defending Kylo in some way.

Unless "let the past die" line is just for the trailer, it's likely the line that Luke doesn't like when he tries to stop the conversation.

I don't know if that would be the line that leads to the blown hut. Adam's delivery seems too intimate and gentle for Luke to be hanging around, unless he sneaks up on them. Bothan did say that both Rey and Kylo were in the hut when it goes down. That's probably why he thought Luke did it.

And dammit, that line and line delivery are too good not to be in the movie! Very Happy

@SoloSideCousin

I'm still going to go with my initial headcanon that the thing that Luke "tries to stop" is Kylo and Rey teaming up in some way--whether it's to access something from the First Jedi temple or going after some other Force lore/artifacts together. Or depending on how paranoid Luke is, heck, maybe Rey and Kylo are even talking about working together to escape Ahch-To together.... Luke tries to stop them and BOOM!...Rey blows the hut.

@ISeeAnIsland In all stories where there's an elderly guardian to a young girl, a young girl and a young man, youngsters turn to each other because it's normal. It's part of growing up. So that should happen unless the story is too busy doing a fan service.

I was watching the fan reaction mash up videos someone posted on the trailer post. Anyway, the scene where the hut is destroyed. Rey is standing up to face Luke....her body language looks like she is completely shocked with what happened. I have to go back and rewatch the trailer to see if I saw that right.

That description matches my interpretation of that shot, as well. So she's shocked that the hut blew--whether she did it inadvertently or whether Luke did it (intentionally or accidentally).

Luke didn't do it. Unlearn what you've learned, young padawan. Very Happy Bothan Spy's source never said it was Luke. It was Bothan Spy speculation based on Angry Luke/Hut Explodes. That was fun so we took it for granted but now it's obvious that it's Rey cause if Kylo could blow up the Temple, why wouldn't she blow up a hut?
