Apparently those were the concept art pieces being referred to.

EDIT

I just reread the blurb under the ‘Falcon Underwater’ that you also show a pic of - that would be pretty amazing too

@MrsWindu @Starliteprism

Wow! thanks so much for sharing this Starliteprism, and I'm so glad yu raised this MrsWindu! That is amazing art. Tantalizing!
The MF flying underwater is a fascinating idea - and with the death star wreckage being in an ocean - maybe we will see this!
The other image that was striking was the death star remnants rising from the sand - it looks like the desert location we've seen in the teaser..
Maybe we see a second location for death star wreckage - for the first death star, or heck, maybe there was a third one we don't know about yet. lol. But this wreckage being in a desert would explain why the gang are in the desert - maybe the macguffin is a hunt for death star wreckage at multiple sites.
Anyway.. clearly my imagination has been sparked by this amazing art. thanks for being so generous with us!

@giaciak2 wrote:Hi guys, I had an illumination.
I don't know where to put my thoughts but this is a point of general discussion and so I'll put it here.

I was waiting for the title to be translated into Italian and French.

Well now I've seen it with my own eyes: Ascension. The same meaning is used in French.

I went to look for the meaning of the word. I've always noticed that names and surnames in Star Wars often have more than one meaning.

In other parts of the forum, I mentioned that in SW I always saw references to the New Age philosophy and the Gnostic myth. The Gnostic myth that I saw, however, is not pure, it has always seemed to me a nice mixture of Christian and Eastern Gnosticism.

Let's go back to the word: Ascension.

Here in the vocabulary this word has 3 meanings.

1) The most famous is religious, linked to death and resurrection of Jesus.
My first idea was therefore Ben Solo will sacrifice himself and die for "Ascend to heaven" having accomplished his saving mission. This part also coincides with my Gnostic idea. But what hope would there be for Rey who has always lived alone waiting for someone?

Note that the meaning of "Ascension" is also known in Islam. The prophet also ascended into heaven, knew Moses and Jesus, and finally Allah and then "went back down" to earth.

2) The second meaning refers to an ascent like an elevation, a climb, and can be used to indicate a mountaineer who climbs a mountain.

3) The third meaning is astronomical. The right ascension of a planet is the angular distance between the point of intersection between the celestial equator and the ecliptic corresponding to the spring equinox. It is a very interesting phenomenon if this point in the cosmos must represent the meeting point between two planets in the same orbit. If you remember the Jedi books are full of astronomical treatises.

Finally I add another meaning that is New Age.

In the new age field "ascension" represents an avolutive growth, but if we go as far as its alchemical meaning, then the meaning becomes the possibility of accessing abilities present genetically in us, but not usable without a superior knowledge. The highest point of this ascent is the conscious achievement of other dimensions.

If related to this the fact that in the book of Thrawn, released in December, speaks of "Skywalker" as a term to indicate people -with Force precognition- who can cross the space - then, I think we are close to the trought.

In essence, I think the word "Ascent" means all these 4 possibilities together.

Therefore, in my hypothesis, Rey and Ben are the two navigators (the two Sky - warlkers) who have crossed ages and space to bring peace to the galaxy. The first Sky - walker Shimi , lost her memory.

Always in my theory, taking inspiration from the Gnostic myth and from the Platonic man. The navigators - sky walkers - are created in pairs of opposites, and complementary ones like the Gnostic Aeons. Male and Female, intended to be completed.

In my opinion Padmé was a navigator of the stars. His opposite was Anakin who - born in human and mortal remains - to bring balance - together with Padme.

Padme fails and decides to leave. In fact there is no explanation, she dies but does not die in childbirth and does not die because Anakin choked her. I have always thought that Padmé decides to die because, by now, his partner is lost in the dark side. He will be redeemed by his son and, as the Force is omniscient, and knows it, Padmè is resumed.

Meanwhile Anakin has lost his way, the Force calls him two sons to help and Luke manages to restore the balance, but a secular enemy is always in sharp jeers. In the Gnostic myth it would be the demiurge. In this case it is called Palpatine. Be it a living being or a spirit. However, the spirit of absolute evil remains. The material evil.

In gnosis, the two opposites are not wicked and corrupt, so the masculine represents the uncorrupted power and physical strength, its symbol is fire, as the feminine represents love and wisdom and its symbol is water . ONLY TOGETHER THEY ARE COMPLETE.

Ben Solo is corrupted by the evil one (demiurge = whoever he is evil). In this hypothesis of mine, the Force sends Rey to the earthly world to help Ben Solo fulfill the prophecy of the predestined.

If my hypothesis is true Rey is the platonic half of Ben, his half apple, and this is as true for her as for him.

I expect Ben Solo to redeem himself by dying and as he completes his grandfather's task, the Force makes him come back to life as Ben Solo.

Just a man: Ben. Only in this way, Rey would not be alone and his half "came back for her" - as promised.

PLEASE -SORRY MY ENGLISH!

What do you think? Opinions?

@giaciak2

I find your comment here fascinating giaciak- and admittedly I am not knowledgeable about some of the concepts so I probably can't respond in any satisfying way. lol. Other than to say it's great (as always) to hear your thoughts!
The three meanings of Ascension may all be relevant. the third is especially new and interesting to me - it is after all - STAR Wars.. and the astronomical reference would be poetic!
Also, the idea of the two being complementary and needed fits with what TLJ told us about how the dark rises and the light to meet it - they always go together.. where there is powerful light there's powerful darkness. Balance!

I don't know the answer, but this theory certainly got revived. That, and the theory that Palpatine created Rey with the Force, like Anakin.
@LadyGaufrette

Hi OrionStars - anything is possible!
I would personally rule out anything that means Rey and Kylo/Ben are related.. anything else I'm up for - which could be argued if both Rey and Anakin have the same 'father' so to speak. I can't see them doing this myself..

I rewatched TFA and noticed Rey watching the "eclipse" on Starkiller Base looks very similar to the ship leaving in her Force vision.

Episode IX and Sequel Trilogy General Discussion - Page 3 Giphy Episode IX and Sequel Trilogy General Discussion - Page 3 Giphy

Interestingly, both scenes are followed by Rey meeting Kylo in the snowy forest. Maybe all of the vision scenes that show a grown-up Rey are visions from the future. We never see little Rey with the leaving ship, it's grown-up Rey watching it happen. Maybe that's not her parents' ship, young Rey is looking at something else (her parents leaving on foot or on a speeder - they died on Jakku after all) and it's just a clever cut to adult Rey watching the ship leave is a future scene from episode IX. Could this be Rey watching her friends leave her behind on a sand planet (it reminds me a bit of Luke watching the Falcon leave Hoth in ESB), and the first scene of the teaser is Kylo picking her up afterwards?

I've always noticed the rectangle shape of both scenes as it closes.
Another thought, in the TROS trailer, the item that Rey is carrying, do you think it's a breathing apparatus for going in the water, or some tech that is holding some vital information. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a scene in which she does go underwater, is in the process of drowning, sees that same scenario, light closing out, but Kylo Ben comes BACK to save her. In the very least, I think we will see the rectangular light shape again in some capacity (One for my bingo card!).

Now I have a crazy theory they’re all carrying mini breathing scuba gear in their canvas bags as they gaze at the Death Star ( maybe that’s what Johns hinting at in his latest IG post) Wild speculation on my part

@Forsythia - really interesting thoughts! We can't make assumptions about things being connected in that forceback - could be a very clever cut indeed! Kudos!

@Starliteprism - interesting! I guess given it's size we know they are not carrying with them the jedi texts (maybe they scanned and uploaded them to a tablet haaa). It's possible it is breathing apparatus. But Finn and Poe are wearing the same bags they had in the desert - and we don't see Rey with that bag so far in the desert, but we can see a strap that looks like it's that bag. I don't know.

Coming back to this concept art:
Episode IX and Sequel Trilogy General Discussion - Page 3 Img_2021
Something here caught my eye.. maybe it's not the art here that is the spoiler.. maybe it's this description of a map hidden in the Emperor's tower - okay at this point it's not going to lead to Luke - but this idea of the map leading to 'where the Jedi are' is very curious!! What is that all about?

Remember all that talk in TLJ lead up about the Compass? I found that search for relics fascinating.. and I enjoyed speculating about this - as in Star Wars anything is possible! I hope this is touched on in TROS. Maybe the compass will make another appearance.
Episode IX and Sequel Trilogy General Discussion - Page 3 Compas10 (page 46 of TLJ visual dictionary)
After all, if you have a map you need a compass right?
Here's a starmap...

(page 48 TLJ visual dictionary)

You know I only realised the other day watching TFA after a long time that this data storage unit (bottom left corner) is what Lor San Tekka gives Poe:
Episode IX and Sequel Trilogy General Discussion - Page 3 Lst210
with the map to Skywalker. The visual dictionary (TFA) makes it sound like it was more than just a map to Skywalker!

Compass... maps.. 'Sky Walkers' navigating.. it all kinda fits together.. tantalizing stuff.. and lol probably way off haaaa..

@DeeBee

Sounds like portal traveling to me? Hmm. So, maybe in Rebels when Ezra went into the World Between Worlds, it's not really time travel(as Filoni has spoken about a few times), but doorways into past, present and future. I mean, when we look at the stars from our vantage point, we know that we are looking into the past, so depending on how the star wars universe is mapped out, if you have means to travel through portals, then folks in the universe can travel to the past and future, because it's relative, if that makes sense..,people that can sky walk across the universe.

Maybe Vader's castle on Mustafar(Vader comics) was an attempt to make a portal into the world, the sith way!!! We already know that Palpatine was unable to enter, manipulating Erza, minus the force lightning of course.
Those Vader comics were juicy, especially with the one character, Momin, transferring themselves into their younger self, means to live forever, possibly?

About World Between Worlds, in the Rebels panel of Celebration, Filoni compared the place to two things,
- the Wood between the Worlds from Narnia,
- I think he suggested it was a place inside Ezra's mind (which would explain why people needed him to enter), he even quoted Dumbledore, "because it is in your mind doesn't mean it's not real". Futhermore, the place is tied to the Mortis episodes which also looked like an event happening in the trio's mind.

So I don't think the theory of time travel can be used with this.
I'll even suggest that Rey's vision in TFA is a form of travel in the WbW already.

@Starliteprism - maybe! 'where the Jedi are' could be something which we know nothing about at this stage. Anything is possible!  I think there will be reveals in TROS which we would be unable to guess at because it's new canon - the final movie in the saga warrants a big mystery being revealed..

@LadyGaufrette - Yes I see World between Worlds understood as a form of time travel and Dave Filoni was not viewing it that way. I heard him explain it in a full of sith podcast. For me it's a bit like Mortis - I don't really understand it and I'm not sure I'm even supposed to based on what we know so far. lol. I found a few transcribed Filoni quotes in this article: https://comicbook.com/starwars/2018/07/30/star-wars-rebels-time-travel-dave-filoni/
Dave Filoni wrote:
"I don't really think of it as time travel. It's not really a thing where you go through one door and out another in a different time," Filoni shared. "The world between worlds is really about knowledge and gaining knowledge. As the Dume wolf says, what's in there is knowledge and destruction. You can gain knowledge of the future or futures that may happen, and you can see things that happened in the past. You can at times choose to alter them, but it's perilous to do so and when you alter something you don't know if that's not the way it always happened. So destruction is the other half of what's in there."

"When you go through these doorways, you're in peril of destruction because you're missing all sorts of things that would have happened or things would've happened otherwise, you know, so it's a dangerous game but it's not something we're here going in and out of different doors," Filoni confirmed. "It's an extension of the Jedi's ability to perceive the future and the past, as described in Empire Strikes Back."
I agree LadyGaufrette, Rey's vision fits - good call!
LadyGaufrette,  your quotes in your sig are really lovely! This is the heart of star wars isn't it - choices, hope, selflessness!

So, did Ezra save Ashoka or was she always going to be saved without him, if it all occurred in his mind. With the Mortis Arc, Anakin was given the choice to take the role as father, but declined and saw what his future was going to be as a result, but then it was all a dream/memories erased. Feel like there are ever-so slight differences between the two.

I put anything Mortis into a category all of it's own. lol.
I think it's very mysterious still how the WbW works. I watched this interesting commentary on the ep on starwars.com: https://www.starwars.com/video/disneyxd-rebels-recon-inside-wolves-and-a-door-and-a-world-between-worlds

Dave Filoni mentions that the World between Worlds was seen twice in Rebels before the World between Worlds episode.
Once - when Ezra gets his Kyber crystal and again in the episode Shroud of Darkness when Ezra communes with Yoda.
I haven't seen these full episode only clips on youtube and someone who has seen all rebels can speak to this better than I can.
In Shroud of darkness, Ahsoka and Ezra have entered the Jedi temple on Lothal to try and meditate and speak with Yoda.
Episode IX and Sequel Trilogy General Discussion - Page 3 Ahsoka10
Episode IX and Sequel Trilogy General Discussion - Page 3 Sod10
I think Ahsoka's words and that Ezra sees Yoda in the WbW suggests Yoda had started to use the WbW during the clone wars.. to see possible events in different time and space. Seems it didn't stop events though to have this knowledge...

If Dave Filoni says it's not time travel I take that on board, even if I don't understand it. lol. So I'm thinking it's not a way to travel between different times, it's a way to access and view different time and space - that is all connected via the cosmic force.
Yoda uses it to commune with Ezra at the Lothal Temple, but he doesn't travel through space and time- more he connects to an alternative space and time maybe?
A major message of the WbW for Ezra was how it was important for him not interfere and let Kanan die.. as it would have cost the lives of others to pull him out - and it would honor his sacrifice to accept it.
.. but we did see Ezra save Ahsoka before he learned this - so how do these two ideas fit together?
With Ahsoka, she ended up going back through the same portal -at least I think she does.. correct me if I'm mistaken- (the Sith temple at Malachor) and we see the danger has passed...she didn't go back to the exact same moment - but I figure she did leave the WbW through the same portal she was pulled into it through. If she did 'time travel' here I figure it's because the force was okay with it..  and Kanan seemed to be guiding this - in his wolf form (Dume)... but it is not what the WbW is supposed typically used for maybe?! This is how I'm seeing it at the moment.. but I freely admit that there is loads of mystery and seeming contradiction. It is what it is.. mysterious!

I wonder if the WbW is how Qui-Gon figured out how to become a force ghost.. and if knowledge of the WbW was passed from Qui-Gon to Yoda. that would have happened during the clone wars when Yoda seems to have been using it.. hmm and is access to the WbW always possible? or does the Force allow it when it is out of balance? sorry I could speculate all day about this stuff. oops..

The recon video emphasizes how the WbW draws together all star wars canon and shows how it's all connected.
I gotta say - this is a tantalizing idea - it would be very suitable to see it all be brought together through WbW for the final movie in the Skywalker Saga too.
Sounds to me like the Rey and Kylo/Ben force bond utilises the WbW too.. and with this - the idea of it being in your mind and yet also real -(as LadyGaufrette shared)  rings true to me.

One other thing I came across in my little WbW deep dive got me thinking- this clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbgaAsI1qqI
- once someone becomes one with the cosmic force they can have a range of ways to influence the living..
Kanan Dume and the Dume wolf are another way someone isn't really gone- and can return to help guide the living.
Episode IX and Sequel Trilogy General Discussion - Page 3 Bye_ka10
We assume Luke would be a force ghost.. but it's possible he could choose a different way to influence like Kanan did.
I've been assuming force ghost was his only option..

And this whole idea is interesting when considering dark siders who have passed - I think it's canon they cannot become force ghosts, but there are other ways to influence the living. With Palpatine in TROS confirmed - he may not come back as a force ghost, but he may be back in some other way.. maybe in an animal... it's all very curious!

The choice of Kylo/Ben quote we heard in WbW is interesting in light of Palpatine being back too 'I will finish what you started' - whooooooo.. put Palpatine to death and smite his evil from the galaxy!!! squeee!! haaa..
this has been fun.. gotta run!

@DeeBee I wonder if Rey's force vision in TFA could be thought of as being in the WBW as well. Heck, now that I think of it, you could make the case that dying and becoming a force ghost is actually going into the WBW and not coming back.

I think that sort of fits in with Lucas' original idea about Obi-wan. In his initial ROTJ script draft, Obi-wan comes back in solid form. I always thought that would have been terrible.

But, if one can be pulled into the WBW as Ezra pulled Ahsoka, maybe Obi-wan himself pulled Anakin in at the end of ROTJ, and that's why he disappeared.

@DeeBee
I wonder if in any way Kanan’s Story is foreshadowing Ben’s - throughout the saga we’ve seen all the skywalkers sacrifice themselves and come Back as force ghosts - kanan is interesting because he’s a different type of Jedi who chooses to love freely (( he has a child with Hera) and it’s not a secret like Anakin’s relationship with Padme was . He sacrifices his life for his family . I wonder if we get similar scenario with Ben. I gotta say I was deeply effected by Kanan’s death ( Yeah Star Wars and the characters deeply get to me - I guess that’s being a fan lol) and how he came back as the wolf kind of haunted me . It wasn’t like a force ghost because with the force ghosts they can remember who they are and it’s like they are still clinging on to their essence , soul etc . With kanan it’s like he truly let go - bits of him were like kanan and other bits it was like it wasn’t him anymore . He was part of the cosmic force and part of that means giving up who you were . Gotta say I shed a lot of tears with kanan even though again his very name was foreshadowing of what he would become . It does worry me that kylo might die and come back but he doesn’t come back as Ben we know and love but that he might come back like kanan but in his case it would be something like a space falcon ( because of the ship ) or even worse something like a droid (R2 D2.? especially if the time loop theory happens - foreshadowing from Vader being a cyborg and also L3 becoming one with the falcon - the falcon is kind of an extension of the solos- there was a doctor who episode that was similar with Clara the Doctor’s assistant’s brain/essence occupying a Dalek ) - so he would see what was going on but not be able to interact . That would be truly sad.
Anyway we’ve been spoiled the last few days with spoilers . Can’t complain.But now i’ve got to the stage that I need to know what fully happens especially to Ben because I really want a happy ending for him and Rey and when I mean happy I mean Ben as human Ben with their kids and living happy lives . Smile

That would be a travesty if Kylo comes back as a droid, i just don’t see our tall dark and sexualised romantic lead getting the short straw like that and missing out on so many future stories of his post redemption life. I really really hope it is the Death and resurrection trope!

@Riri
I agree with you . I want Ben as Ben . I said to myself at one point that I didn’t want to know any more spoilers but now I need to know they aren’t gonna pull something like the above . I really hope they don’t . Just want happy ending for both Ben and Rey together - as humans . Thinking happy thoughts now Smile Gonna read some nice Rey and kylo fanfiction now to cast those negative thoughts aside .

@Forsythia

I've never noticed that. It's really interesting. I really love how Rey's visions become reality, with some changes. It's like a dream, when we dream about real things, but these things are distorted in the dream. I found I like this ST more and more. Kudos to you, for your eagle eyes.

There is something about that ship.  I need to compare with something that I saw in the teaser.

Maybe this has all been discussed and I am late to the party, but is this ship the same kind of ship that is flying away from Rey?

It looks like it.
Another thing.....others have pointed this out, so I'm not taking credit for it. The brief bit in the teaser for TroS shows Kylo cutting down a guy in a helmet who looks very much like the one he speared to save Rey in her vision in TFA. I couldn't help but think that the scenes in her vision featuring Kylo are all 'future' visions.
I've also got a funny feeling regarding Kylo's helmet. Whoever it is repairing it doesn't seem to be Kylo. So .....what if the person wearing the mask in TroS isn't Kylo after all?
Probably bonkers!

It very much looks like a real life version of Rey's vision, where it looks like Kylo saves her like. In that one, rain was pouring down. In this one, is that red coming down like a dust? You'd really need an HD shot to see it, but that shot is insanely red.

As for the salad bowl guy that Kylo/Ben kills, not only does he match the person in Rey's vision, there are also more of them. You can see another one of those guys on the right in the picture below. Early on Pablo called that salad bowl guy a "clan member".

Polish title could have an interesting meaning. It is "Skywalker Odrodzenie." It could imply redemption. Odrodzenie can be translated into english as rebirth, revival, renascence. Laughing

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but we finally have a German title: Der Aufstieg Skywalkers (could be translated as "The Rise/Ascension of Skywalker" or "Skywalker's Rise/Ascension"). Sounds to me like it is definitely referring to a person and not a name for a new Jedi order. My favourite part were people commenting on the title and someone saying it had to be Luke because this trilogy was about him Shocked Um, yeah, good job at erasing Rey completely.
They were also reporting that the trailer for TROS would be shown before Avengers: Endgame in Germany and now I feel robbed because there was no TROS trailer in my showing Crying or Very sad Maybe other people are more lucky and get to see it.

@motherofpearl1 They don't do a second trailer until October. We'll get a sizzle reel/behind the scenes video at either Comic or D23 Expo, so July/August.
