I loved episode 1. It's not edgy like I was concerned it might be. Very 80's and very Star Wars. The twist at the end was wonderful and adorable. The hero is snarky and Very Serious to the point of being goofy. Really pleased.

OMG - I loved the 80s feel to it with the effects, etc. It was subtle, so it wasn't happy valley, but you could tell it was done on purpose with a wink and a nod.
And yes, even though he wears a helmet, his sassyness came through...and bad*** ways...love it! Although, I hope he takes his helmet off here and there too. teehee

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
Thank you to everyone, as well as most of Twitter, for hiding doing spoilers. I don't have D+, but am considering it, might hop on and off depending on the month. And only 4 countries have the service right now, the UK/west Europe doesn't get it until the end of March.
I knew it, I knew the grimdark "I'm an uber-adult and mature SW Boba Fett" show was only partially true and kind of a product of marketing! This is their flagship show, they're trying to sell it to people who wouldn't otherwise be interested in D+. Someone was saying the first half was like the Legends EU Boba Fett trilogy they loved as a child, until it shifts into mythological hero's journey. And he has an actual personality and dialogue. Have also heard that it's much goofier than advertised. This lines up more with what Favreau and cast have said, I always thought the interviews didn't match with the trailers and promos.
Might wait a little, people who saw it last night seemed to have no issues when most of the country was asleep, but this morning everything appears to be crashing or not working, probably due to the demand. My only issue is that people will still pit this show against the ST, which I feel is what's been happening since it was announced, like this is "real" SW, and what the movies should all be like. Like, it's all SW, and KK works on them both, they aren't in competition with each other.
In other news, Werner Herzog has not seen the SW movies and doesn't know the other movies Favreau has made, that's just too great. https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/werner-herzog-the-mandalorian-star-wars-jon-favreau-disney-plus-1203400810/

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
I saw the first episode! Illegally of course. I can't see the show legally for some time, at least until march 2020 (but some rumors say that I won't see it legally until 2021). I didn't try VPN yet, maybe I should. It is very likely that it will be the most pirated show ever because of Disney distribution politics. Back to the show. I liked this episode. The story was interesting
EDIT: VPN won't work. I would need a bank account in Netherlands as well. So illegally then.
- Spoiler:
- I was afraid that they will make some "new bounty every episode" sitcom. It seems that it is not the case, thank the maker.

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
I enjoyed the first episode, although I am not really 100% invested in it so far. It hasn't hooked me yet, but I am intrigued. The fact that the tough-guy Mandalorian has a secret soft side is the best thing about it so far in my book.
I'm puzzled by what the hubbub was over the spoiler in the first episode--this spoiler was supposed to impact the GFFA as we knew it.

- Spoiler:
- Is it the Babyoda? (not sure how that's a spoiler, but maybe we don't know enough yet) Or is it the Purge of Mandalore that he was having flashbacks about from his childhood? That would affect Mandalore's involvement in the galaxywide conflicts the Skywalker saga covers...

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
I'm probably not watching this show (most of the stuff outside the anthology films just doesn't interest me), but "Baby Yoda" is both clever and something that I hope they tread carefully with. Part of the appeal (from George Lucas' mouth himself I believe) of Yoda is the mystery. I understand G.L. never wanted his origins explained, never wanted anyone to know much of anything about him at all. I think this reveal is *great*, but at the same time I hope they are selective about the information they introduce here.

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
I saw it! I really liked it! Gonna repeat some other people, it does have much more humor and an overall feeling of goofiness than advertised. I saw they rated it TV-PG. While it certainly has an edge, none of the violence was graphic, maybe less than some of the movies.
- Spoiler:
- Baby Yoda is a bold choice, but I'll trust them with it. Just like how they ousted D&D when they tried to do the Jedi origin story. They'll inevitably do it one day, just with other people. IG-88 isn't totally dead though, right? I got the impression Taika was going to be a larger part of the show. Yes, the CGI was a little off in parts, but I'm stunned at the level of production value and practical effects on display here, it really did look like a film in parts. And the music was so unique. More close-ups, since it's TV. The Mando's a big softie, I can't wait until he takes off the helmet and we learn his name!

I loved the first episode. Son (6) enjoyed all of it, but my daughter (5) only cared for the ending, lol. I was pleasantly surprised by the humor and action as well, and that ending has me intrigued for more. Great music, great visuals, etc, etc. Will rewatch before Friday.

Does anyone wonder if...

- Spoiler:
- he is force sensitive? I know the thought seems to be all are connected with the force, yet my curiosity is if he is Jedi-level force sensitive? 1) Due to the bond with the baby Yoda species, and his ability to connect, after he centers himself, to the Blurrg?

- Spoiler:
- The Mandalorian's interaction with the blurrg (seriously, can anyone say or write this without giggling?) does bring to mind a scene from the Master and Apprentice book in which Obi-Wan bonds with a varactyl via the Force. On the other hand, the blurrg did pretty much sneak up on him and blindside the Mandalorian, and having an affinity for animals (being an animal "whisperer") seems like it could be a purely natural talent. I'm leaning toward no just because I think that the western genre pretty much calls for a protagonist who is just a Tough Guy who has Been Through Some Stuff and lives by True Grit. I think that's where they're going with him. We're treading new ground here though, so you never know.
I am wondering if Babyoda is going to be FS. Is the whole race FS and he's no exception?
In any case, I can't wait to see if the Mandalorian is going to be a straight-up daddy or what.

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
The Disney+ thing appears to be going well. I read it got 3.2 million iOS and Android app downloads on its first day, but Disney won't reveal total subscribers, including other TV-connected apps and their website (which was how I did it), until one of those shareholder things in February.

I got the impression he felt weird saying it ?? as though after he said it, he thought - "crap, am I allowed to reveal it?" - and too late now! haha Either DLF doesn't know, or they decided - it's not one of the big spoilers, so oh well. lol

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
So there was a premiere/fan event of the first 3 episodes of Mandalorian at the El Capitan last night, apparently the later episodes are even better? Also, there was a Q&A and everyone is adorable. Pedro asks if Star Tours is still at Disneyland. Werner Herzog goes on about how there's a need for new mythology, and SW does just that and it's good. And the fact he's never seen SW movies makes it even better. Like, he just knows from his own project. https://twitter.com/themandalorian/status/1194838514283642880

I actually laughed out loud at least twice. I'm not really a laugh-out-loud person, but these lines got me:
The Jawas were fantastic. I love/hate those things.
I was intrigued by the first chapter, but now with the second one I'm sold on this series.

I adore this show. Wasn’t hyped at all going into it, but the unexpected route the story took is right up my alley. And Ludwig’s music is soooo good.

Me too. I thought it was going to be the grimdark all the fanboys wanted, but it's turning out to look a lot like the Star Wars I've always loved.
